KELEWELE (Spicy plantain)

Kelewele, a nice little snack or perfect with rice and shitor. If you are planning to visit Ghana, this must be on your list of foods to try.

Serves 4

Ingredients

4 ripe plantains, peeled and cut into desired shape

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

½ teaspoon peeled grated fresh ginger root

1 teaspoon salt & black pepper

Vegetable oil for frying

 

Method:

Grind together grated ginger root, cayenne pepper, salt and black pepper.

In a bowl, toss together plantain and the spice mixture.

Heat oil in a skillet, fry plantain until golden brown on both sides

Transfer to absorbent paper to drain excess oil

Sprinkle a little cayenne pepper over for a bit more kick

Serve kelewele immediately with peanuts and enjoy
